The Mission Journey

Dear Parishioners & Visitors,

“Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?”
In rebuking the disciples, it is clear that Jesus does advocate non-violent
solutions in our response to the temptation to condemn and to act with
the violence of revenge. The disciples’ desire is to misuse their God-given
power to heal in Jesus’ ways, and instead, to violently “consume” other
human beings with fire by simply calling on God. The source of violence
comes from the human heart bent towards cowardice and narcissistic control.
The way to assist in the conversion of others lies not in violent attack
in any of its death-dealing expressions.

Jesus’ words “Follow me.” are met with excuses and procrastination.
The hope in following Jesus is that, in taking the risk to trust Him, we are
granted the graces necessary for the mission journey. Let us not become
irresolute, unadventurous, or sans gumption.

In God’s loving kindness,
